(October 4, 1924- ) Born in Simpson County, Kentucky. In 1942 took first job in journalism, working as reporter for Clarkesville (Tennessee) Leaf Chronicle. Served in U.S. Army during World War II, winning Bronze Star and Air Medal with cluster. Attended University of Kentucky in 1946; graduated from Yale in 1949. After college joined Time magazine staff as correspondent, becoming Chicago bureau chief for Time-Life-Fortune in 1955, contributing editor in 1958, and San Francisco bureau chief in 1960. Served as senior editor at Look (1962-68), founding editor of Psychology Today (1969-76, 1988-90), founding editor of American Health (1980-90), editor of Harvard Business Review (1992-93), and founding editor of Spirituality and Health (1996- ). Author of Romney's Way: A Plan and an Idea (1967).
