(December 12, 1938- ) Born Robert E. Fletcher in Detroit, Michigan. Attended Fisk University for three years beginning in 1956; graduated from Wayne State in 1961. In 1963 was photographer and administrator in Detroit for tutorial program of National Student Association. Moved to New York, working at Harlem Education Project. From 1964 to 1968 was based in Mississippi as photojournalist for SNCC; taught in a Mississippi Freedom School. Showed photographs in exhibitions including "Us" (1965) and "Now" (1968). Returned to New York in 1969, working as freelance photojournalist and filmmaker and teaching photography. Worked on two documentary films about African independence movements, A Luta Continua ("The Struggle Continues," cinematographer and co-director, Angola, 1971), and O Povo Organizado ("The People Organized," cinematographer, Mozambique, 1975). Graduated from New York University School of Law in 1990. Currently practices law in New York City.
