(September 11, 1937- ) Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grew up in Chicago area. Attended Northwestern University, where he edited campus magazine; received journalism degree from Southern Illinois University. After college was assistant editor at Regency Books. Spent 1962 and 1963 with American Friends Service Committee in Dayton, Ohio; wrote on civil rights and civil liberties for Commonweal and York (Pennsylvania) Gazette and Daily. Worked with SNCC in Atlanta (1964-65); reported on civil rights movement for The Nation, New Republic, and Milwaukee Journal. From 1966 to 1978 was a Chicago Sun-Times reporter and feature writer. In 1978, founded and edited a music business magazine. Has worked as freelance journalist since 1979, writing on film, music, small business, world trade, and other subjects; edited a small business magazine for twelve years.
